Be Safe When Playing Sports

by: Kristen Hann

Nothing beats playing your favorite sport and being on a team with your friends. As you are playing there are a few things that you need to remember to make sure you are safe and don’t get hurt.

• Protect yourself. Wearing the correct protective gear will help to keep you safe. Don’t worry about looking goofy, without it you may get hurt and not get to play.
• Warm-up. Just like adults, kids need to warm-up before hitting the field as well. Take a couple minutes and jog around or stretch to help prevent pulling any muscles.
• Know the rules. Understanding the rules of the game before you play will keep you safe from the other players and will also help you play better!
• Sit out if you are hurt. If you hurt yourself make sure to tell an adult and don’t keep playing. Playing with an injury will only make it worse and will keep you from playing with your friends longer.
• Drink lots of water. When playing sports you are running around a lot which will cause you to sweat. When you sweat you are losing water that your body needs. Drinking lots of water will keep your body healthy and keep you from getting tired as easily.
